Last time we talked about all things charming about Exeter and we’re not going to stop now – we have a lot more to go through. A weekend get-away might not be enough to see all the things that should be seen here. Let’s continue this journey, shall we?
Previously we barely touched on the subject of the Exeter Quay and it definitely requires more attention. Announced “Travelers’ Choice 2020” by tripadvisor, it’s the place to go in Exeter. Let the sight of beautiful swans soothe you while you eat at one of the many local restaurants. It’s a great place to get away from the busy city life, relax and admire the wildlife. If you enjoy canoeing or boating you have one more reason to visit the Quay, as it’s perfectly suited for these pastimes.
A world-class museum well stocked with all sorts of antiques – from Egyptian tombs to giant stuffed animals. We can say, with confidence, that there’s something for everyone. Free entry makes it a place anyone can (and should) visit on their trip to Exeter. If you’re interested, you can also learn a ton about Exeter through the ages there. Right under the city’s hustle and bustle lies one of the most unique places in England. Though now a museum, the Underground Passages are a system of tunnels originally built in the 14th century to assist with maintenance of water pipes. With the right guide you can learn fascinating stories of strife and hardship that this ancient monument has seen over the ages, in times of war and plague. They are a true gold mine of knowledge for those who like to dig deep in history. Keep your head down though, some passages are not very tall and you might have to crawl a bit.
