Top things to do with kids in Exeter

Whether you live in Exeter or you’re just visiting for a while, if you have children you will know the challenge of keeping your kids occupied. This is particularly true during half terms and school holidays where the days can end up stretching out ahead of you in a very daunting way!

The great news is that if you’re in Exeter then you’ll be able to find fun things to do to suit every age. Exeter is renowned for being a family-friendly destination, with many great attractions on the doorstep – plenty of them are even within walking distance from the city centre. If you’re looking for family-friendly things to do in Exeter you’ve come to the right place. Here’s our round-up of the best things to do with your kids in Exeter, come rain or shine!

Visit Exeter Cathedral

A visit to the Cathedral may not sound immediately tempting to bored children, but once they are there they’ll love it! With plenty of outdoor space to explore on the beautiful Cathedral Green, they’ll be able to burn off loads of energy and let off steam. And there are plenty of ice-cream stalls and shops where you’ll be able to treat them to something sweet. Once inside the cathedral you’ll find a wealth of information on its rich history.

The RAMM Centre

Exeter is lucky enough to have its very own museum. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery is great for children with its interactive displays and plenty of activities on offer. And even better – entrance is totally free for everyone! There are regular exhibitions, talks and lectures, along with special events that are dedicated to families and young children. If you’re visiting Exeter then be sure to check this out.

Crealy Theme Park & Resort

Is your family the type that is looking for the thrills and spills of an adventure park? If so, you won’t be disappointed with a visit to Crealy Theme Park and Resort. With rides, attractions, arcades and plenty of food and drink options, you’ll find something for every member of the family here. This is an unforgettable experience that the children will talk about for years to come.

The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth

If your kids are mad about animals, then they will love a visit to the Donkey Sanctuary. Situated in Sidmouth which is a short drive from Exeter, this charity rescues and cares for donkeys, and by visiting them you’ll be supporting their efforts considerably and making a huge difference. There are loads of petting opportunities, along with a café and restaurant to make catering a piece of cake!

No matter what age group you’re looking to entertain, Exeter offers plenty of solutions to keep the kids occupied (and you from going crazy!). This is just a snapshot – there are plenty of other family favourites, including the historical Powderham Castle which is a must-see while you’re in town. And the Climbing Hangar and Clip ‘n’ Climb Exeter will both help your little monkeys release some energy on a rainy day!

We’d love to hear about your favourite go-to places to take the kids in Exeter!
